Kathryn Scott family portraitKathryn Scott (Allied ASID) is an award winning, internationally recognized interior designer who has been working in the interior design industry since 1980. She has studied both in Dallas, Texas and Rome, Italy, earning a B.F.A. in studio art as well as a B.F.A in Italian studies from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. She also attended classes at the Art Students League and the National Academy of Design in New York and has received several awards for her paintings.

Before devoting herself to interior design, Kathryn pursued a career as a painter. She also designed and copyrighted China patterns, including twelve Faberge egg designs, which are sold in fine stores and catalogues worldwide. Her interior design career began with the well-respected interior design firm of Vignelli Associates, in New York. She then worked with several other New York design firms before starting her own company.

For the past twenty-five years, Kathryn has been creating beautiful and comfortable homes for a diverse and international clientele ranging from the president of Tatarstan in Russia to prominent lawyers, doctors, entrepreneurs and CEO’s in the northeastern United States and Florida. Although Kathryn mainly designs high-end residences, her projects have also ranged from corporate offices, retail stores, private yachts, Synagogues, cottages in the woods and ocean front estates.

An associate member of the American Society of Interior designers, Kathryn has been published in several magazines including Florida Architecture, Home Style Magazine and Metropolitan Home. She has also appeared in international publications such as The Queen Living magazine (Korea) and The Hong Kong Newspaper. She has received four awards from The Homebook Design Excellence as well as receiving the Home of the Year award from Metropolitan Home Magazine.

Whether working within new construction, renovation or decorative installations, Kathryn combines a mixture of styles representing the clients’ lifestyles, personal history and taste. She designs interiors as a reflection of her clients’ tastes and sensibilities. Considering herself to be only the vehicle for interpretation, she feels it is important that she maintain simplicity and high quality of detail in her work. The process of creating that portrait is what makes each job challenging and unique.

Kathryn specializes in attention to detail, and looks to classical rules of proportion, integrally beautiful materials and uncommon ways of combining them together to arrive at a timeless end result. From the inception of each project, the architectural details and decoration are considered as equally important elements in creating a cohesive balance within the interior.

Kathryn is married to the famous Chinese artist, Wenda Gu, and often incorporates his work into her interiors.
